Hello loves, how excited are you for the last half of the year?
My excitement cannot be contained because for the first time in a long while, I feel like I know what I am doing. I’m really psyched for all the awesome things happening this second half.
There’s so much I have to share and I can’t wait to get on it.
I’m a DIY babe. So what that means is I love to make things myself and to experiment. That being said, I went deep into my pockets to get some skin care products that I plan to use hand in hand with my DIY masks and serums.
I had this genius idea to try out the 10 steps Korean skin care routine. Most people try this skin care routine when they have problematic skin they would like to rectify. You can check what this routine did for Patricia Kihoro I have okay skin. It’s not perfect, just okay.
My idea is to see how well this routine works for someone with just okay skin. I have seen the wonders it has done for people out here and to be honest, I wouldn’t mind perfect and flawless skin. If such a thing exists.
Maybe I shouldn’t assume everyone knows what the 10 step Korean skin care routine entails. Here goes. It contains 10 steps at the name suggests. The important point isn’t the kind of products you use or the brand, but making sure you follow the steps.
- Oil Cleanser
- Foam (water based) cleanser
- Sheet Mask
- Eye cream
- Sun screen (day) / Night cream (night)
I am currently on this routine and it can be a lot of work. I will be sharing my results at the end of my 2 weeks run. Fingers crossed for that glass skin.
This is a mini haul of some skin care products I’d recommend. I have a lot more products so that means another haul is down the road.
Aloe BHA Skin Toner
This is honestly the best toner I have ever used. My skin loves aloe vera. There was a time I would walk around my neighborhood looking for the freshest one to apply on my skin before bed. It did and still does wonders for my skin.
This particular toner contains 0.5% BHA (Beta Hydroxy acid) which also acts as an exfoliant. This helps in ‘loosening’ up the dead skin on the outermost layer to make room for new fresher skin. Since BHAs are oil soluble, this toner can penetrate into the pores to get rid of any dead skin clogging the pores.
After using this toner for two weeks straight, my skin looked healthier and had a glow. This toner is also good for wrinkles. I got this from Sugar Punch for 1800
Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser
Out of all the moisturizers I have ever used, none beats this one. This was my staple back in 2014 -2015 but then since I decided to be a guinea pig, I ended up trying out different kinds of moisturizers. After kutangatanga I found myself back here.
It is so moisturizing and is very light on the skin. I use a lot of it at night and wake up with plump skin.
You can buy this from Super cosmetics at 1300/=
Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask
You know my love for clay masks will never go away. I mostly use bentonite clay or activated charcoal but then I wanted something that didn’t need a preparation stage. Something ready to apply. So I decided to pick this up and give it ago.
I have only used it once but it really cleaned my pores and my skin felt really refreshed after. I will definitely use it again and again because clay masks really work on the excess oils and the cleaning out pores. You can get this from Korean Products in Kenya for 1800/=
This is the best oil for my skin. I have tried coconut and olive oil before and they both clogged my pores like it was the end of the world. When I discovered macadamia oil, I just wanted it for my food. But then I decided to read up on its benefits for the skin and I was floored. Macadamia has the same comedogenic rating as Jojoba oil which was such a win. This means there are low chances of the oils clogging your pores.
Jojoba oil can be expensive so macadamia oil was just a win. I get a 500ml bottle for about 900 shillings. You can get this from Food Plus (cooking oil section).
This is great for melting my makeup and to moisturize my skin. I love it and would recommend it to everyone. Yes, still use it for my food.
I love my sheet masks. They are great for moisturizing the skin and adding all that good stuff. Every night I wear a mask, I wake up with glowing skin the next morning. The beauty of these masks is that they are loaded with serums that your skin will love. You can get different masks to deal with different issues. I get all my masks from Korean Products in Kenya and they go for only 200 shillings.
They are worth every coin.
Garnier Skin Active 3-in-1 Charcoal Anti-Blackhead Wash,Scrub, Mask
This is a 3 in one product that contains charcoal, blueberry extracts and salicylic acid. You can use it as a face wash, a physical scrub or a mask.
I am no longer using physical exfoliants on my skin, I have moved to chemical exfoliants. So I use this as a mask and I’m very gentle when cleaning it. I understand it works very well as a scrub for most people, so you can try it out. You can buy this at Super cosmetics for 1200 but if you are like me, rush to your nearest Naivas. They stock up on Garnier products at a very reasonable price.
Tea Tree Oil
This is something I always have with me. It is a skin care secret that most people don’t know about. It you are prone to break outs, make sure you get you some tea tree oil. The brand doesn’t matter as long as it’s pure tea tree oil.
This is my spot treatment.
Once I finish my skin care routine, I use the tea tree oil on any pimples or dark spots and leave it through the night.
If you get nothing else on this list, get this. I got this from Healthy U for 995/=
That is it for this mini haul. Most of the products I got fro the Korean routine will be in that post and I shall link it here once ready.
I hope this post was helpful especially if you are looking for a starting point for your skin routine and don’t know what to get.
